How can I prepare for my in-home massage in Austin, TX?

Updated: 2 days ago

Welcoming a licensed massage therapist into your home for a session is a powerful act of self-care. At Middlebrook Mobile Massage, I bring therapeutic bodywork directly to you—so you can relax, heal, and recharge in the comfort of your own space. Whether this is your first in-home massage or you're a regular client, here’s everything you need to know to prepare for a safe, respectful, and effective session.

1. Create a Clean, Quiet, and Safe Space - To get the most out of your mobile massage, please prepare a private room that is clean, quiet, and free from distractions, including pets. A clear area of at least 6x9 feet, but ideally closer to 8x11, is best for setting up the massage table and moving around comfortably. I will provide all equipment—including a professional-grade table, linens, lotion, and soothing music.

This includes parking. For apartment buildings, please ensure the space is accessible and that there is safe and available parking nearby. Unfortunately, I cannot carry my equipment upstairs unless there is a working elevator. If you live in a high-rise, arrange for my parking needs, ideally in your parking garage. If I am unable to find parking reliably, I may need to use rideshare services, such as Uber or Lyft, to move my table to your home.

2. Practice Excellent Hygiene - Please shower before your session and wear clean, comfortable clothing. If you’ve been working out, sweating, smoking, or wearing strong perfumes, it’s especially important to rinse off beforehand. A clean body supports a safer, more relaxing treatment for both you and your therapist.

If hygiene concerns are present, I may respectfully cancel or shorten the session without refund, in accordance with my massage therapy policies.

3. Stay Hydrated - Good hydration helps your muscles respond better to massage and supports the body's natural detoxification process. I recommend drinking plenty of water the day before and after your session to help reduce soreness and enhance your results.

4. Silence Your Devices - This is your time to unplug. Please turn off phones, smartwatches, and devices before the session begins. I also ask that no audio or video recordings be made during the session. This protects your privacy and honors the therapeutic nature of our work together.

5. Respect Boundaries and Consent - Massage therapy is a professional, non-sexual, and consent-based service. You are always encouraged to speak up if something feels uncomfortable—whether it’s the pressure, temperature, music, or your positioning on the table. I will check in throughout the session to ensure your comfort and safety.

Any sexual misconduct—verbal or physical—will result in immediate termination of the session with no refund, and future services will be denied. Thank you for helping me maintain a safe, professional space for healing.

6. Understand Appointment Timing and Cancellation Policy - Please be ready for your massage session at the scheduled time. If your space is not prepared when I arrive, that counts as a late start, and your session may be shortened. I deeply value your time and mine, which is why I uphold a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. Missed appointments or same-day cancellations will be charged in full.

7. Ask Questions Before We Begin - Feel free to reach out ahead of time if you have concerns about your health history, pressure preferences, or how to prepare your space. I’m happy to walk you through what to expect or tailor your treatment to your specific needs—whether that’s detailed deep tissue massage or a more relaxing Swedish-style massage.

A Final Note

Every massage with me is an opportunity for real connection, healing, and reset. By taking just a few simple steps to prepare, you're helping to co-create a session that’s respectful, effective, and deeply restorative.
